HK competition and festival of music dubbing and synchronisation n.2

hk2
  • 1 Introduction

The cultural association Harlock is organising:

HK - Competition and Festival of music dubbing and synchronisation.

The aim of this initiative is to recuperate and re-propose, essentially to get the public to re-appreciate all those works which, due to the lack of sound, tend to be forgotten and appear partly distorted, a fact which we do not consider merely as of secondary importance; to recuperate that which time has dispersed and destroyed; to allow for a new fruition of these works not just with philological attention, but, why not, also with irony, poetry, in provocative pursuit.
Entries will be especially appreciated which manage to combine images with less well-known music, or reworkings of a soundtrack which manage to make us re-evaluate in one unique moment the two complementary aspects of this festival: images and sound.

    images and sound.

  • 2. Programme

The second event will take place in Bolzano in the IACC room of Via Roen 6, on 7/8 December 2000. The festival will take place in two episodes: one dedicated to the projection of the best works; one for the final award ceremony.

  • 3. Competition

    suType of works admitted:

All dubbed films are eligible to participate which are silent in their original form and belong to the silent film era. It is categorically forbidden to alter the original editing. Parts of complete works will not be accepted. All lengths (short, medium or long films) are eligible. The music chosen can be of any type: original (composed specifically for the work which is being dubbed) and non-original (from well or lesser-known musicians, edited or not). Sound effects will also be appreciated as part of the overall effect of the completed work.

    Selection process

The inscription is completely free. The application form plus two copies of the entered works (in betacam, s-vhs or vhs) should reach us by 31/10/2000 at the latest. The copies will not be returned and the association will have the right to use them for other events. Each candidate is allowed to enter a maximum of 3 works. Each work can be entered by more than one person, i.e. collaborative and group entries are eligible (e.g. one editor + one or more musicians). The same name cannot appear in more than three works.
A brief description of the work and the author(s) is required.

    Selection

The board of directors of the association has the right to select the most eligible works to be submitted to the jury. The board of directors will nominate a jury composed of various qualified members: film students, music students, professionals, enthusiasts, which will designate the winners of the competition. The decisions of the jury are not reversible.

N.B. The length of the works and the originality of the music will be of relevance to the selection process. The technical quality of the reproduced copies will be taken into consideration with regard to the quality of the soundtrack.
